The Shapes Train

Synopsis: The Shapes Train has just pulled in to the station at Tulli's "World of Shapes". See if you can load each shape into the right carriage, by clicking on the correct shape.

Added Value: This is a sorting activity designed to develop your child's ability to sort and categorize shapes (triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, stars, etc.) regardless of their size, colour or orientation. For instance, the carriage marked with a triangle will take any type of triangle (right-angled, isosceles, equilateral, etc.), thus developing your child's sorting, categorizing and generalizing skills. As they search the picture for shapes, children further develop their ability to scan and visually distinguish between shapes.

Tip: Use geometrically-shaped stickers (found in most stationary or craft shops), and help your child create separate pages of stickers featuring squares, triangles and circles. You can also make these shapes yourself, by simply cutting out the basic shapes in all sorts of variations of size, colour etc., – mix all the shapes up to make it a bit more tricky.
